The small claims Court deals with disputes where the amount claimed is £10,000 or less, and the Court will allocate them to the Small Claims Track. The most common types of claim in this track are:

• Compensation for faulty services provided by builders, garages etc.
• Compensation for faulty goods supplied, for example washing machines or televisions
• Disputes between landlord and tenants – rent arrears or compensation for not doing repairs
• Money owed by customers for goods or services they have received

The idea behind the small claims track is that an individual can make a claim without instructing solicitors.
